Ted Uhlman is running for Marple Commissioner of Ward 6. He has lived in Marple Township most of his life, graduating from Saint Pius X Elementary and Cardinal O’Hara high schools. Ted has received his BA from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington and his MA from West Chester State University.
He knows what it is to work hard. He has worked hard all his life until, at the age of 66, a cancer diagnosis led him to retirement. In his youth (before age 40), Ted worked at just about everything; from 40 to 60, he taught English as a Second Language at Delaware County Community College and Community College of Philadelphia; from 60 to 66, he drove 18-wheelers around the country. He is no slacker.
For as long as Ted can remember, he's been a compulsive volunteer. Over the years, Ted has worked with political, environmental, and recreational programs with the aim of making the world a better place. He was a coach and a board member of the Marple Newtown Soccer Association when his daughter was young. Later, he was active in the parents association of various swim clubs and teams, and also supported a variety of marching bands, including the Marple Newtown High School Marching Band. Ted has also for more than 20 years, volunteered or served on the board of The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park.
Now, Ted wants to bring his energy to improving life in Marple Township. Some of the issues Ted cares about include:
